Burt Bacharach “Essential Burt Bacharach”
Compositore statunitense. Studente di violoncello, batteria e pianoforte, trasferitosi a New York a seguito del padre giornalista, frequenta i club dove suonano D. Gillespie e C. Parker e si appassiona al jazz. Dopo il servizio militare, durante il quale non smette di suonare, collabora con artisti famosi e dal 1958 al 1961 segue M. Dietrich in tournée come direttore musicale. In cima alle classifiche di musica pop con le canzoni scritte per D. Warwick, comincia a comporre anche per il cinema, scrivendo successi come «What’s New Pussycat», cantata da T. Jones e inserita in Ciao Pussycat (1964) di C. Donner. Con la colonna sonora di Butch Cassidy (1969) di G.R. Hill vince due Oscar (per la musica originale e per la canzone «Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head»).
